The Emmy’s Predictions: Outstanding Drama Series

The Emmys are approaching, and you know what that means, lots of your friends and coworkers expressing their expert opinions on which show should win in each category. You may not know us IRL, but The Overthinkers are everywhere, including office water coolers, eager to overshare our thoughts.

So here are my brief predictions, and upsets, for the biggest Emmy categories. I’ll start with the darkest category: Dramas.

Outstanding Drama Series:

Better Call Saul, The Crown, The Handmaid’s Tale, House of Cards, Stranger Things, This Is Us, Westworld

It’s a tie for me, honestly. I cannot choose between The Handmaid’s Tale and Westworld. Both are visually stunning, and excellently directed. Elisabeth Moss in Handmaid and Evan Rachel Wood in Westworld absolutely conquered their lead roles. I would be happy if either won, but I predict Stranger Things will win for its overall appeal to a wider audience, and its stellar mostly child cast.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series:

Viola Davis, “How to Get Away with Murder”, Claire Foy, “The Crown”, Elisabeth Moss, “The Handmaid’s Tale”, Keri Russell, “The Americans”, Even Rachel Wood, “Westworld”, Robin Wright, “House of Cards

Again, these women are killing it in television. With much consideration, I think Elisabeth Moss should win for her portrayal of Offred in The Handmaid’s Tale. She really brought so much depth to the role that even the book did not touch. However, Claire Foy has already taken several awards home for The Crown, so I wonder how it will match up with Hulu’s Handmaid.

Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series:

Sterling K. Brown “This Is Us”, Anthony Hopkins, “Westworld”, Bob Odenkirk, “Better Call Saul”, Matthew Rhys, “The Americans”, Liev Schreiber, “Ray Donovan”, Kevin Spacey, “House of Cards”, Milo Ventimiglia, “This Is Us”

Unfortunately, the only show I watch on this list is Westworld. I think Ricky Whittle deserved a nomination for his portrayal of Shadow Moon in American Gods. Even though I did not understand the show, I still thought he did an excellent job. I also hate how The Walking Dead gets snubbed each year. There are so many excellent male leads in that show! Just give the zombies a chance! In the end, I think Anthony Hopkins should win but I predict Kevin Spacey will instead.

Who do you think will take home in these categories?

Thanks for reading, be sure to check out my predictions for the comedy categories.
